Founded in 2005, with a start up grant from the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation, Southern Maryland College Access Network has been built on a foundation of excellence and service to our students, families, and public school system.

During our 10 years in operation, we have reached thousands of academically talented and economically challenged, underserved and/or first-generation college bound junior and senior high school students through weekly sessions involving the nationally recognized SoMD CAN Curriculum. SoMD CAN’s community outreach, through Financial Aid workshops and seminars, has touched over 10,000 individuals in that time.

SoMD CAN programs are offered at all 4 high schools in Calvert County. The SoMD CAN Pre-College Advisor works closely with the Guidance Office and Administrative staff at each high school to identify students. Weekly sessions are conducted during the one- hour lunch throughout the academic year. Personal consultations for participants and their families can be arranged with the Pre-College Advisor.

SoMD CAN is the recipient of the United Way of Calvert County “Community … Grant” which allows our organization to provide the You CAN program at Calvert Middle School and Southern Middle School. You CAN has been developed to work directly with underserved middle school students to allow them access to fill in the description

The SoMD CAN Board of Directors, SoMD CAN Executive Director, and our dedicated SoMD CAN Staff work diligently to provide a service to students and families found nowhere else in region.region
